As the exclusive North American partner of Westeria, eFACTOR3 is proud to celebrate the opening of Westeria’s new TechCenter in Westbevern, Germany — a space built for collaboration, testing, and innovation in modern recycling technology.

More than just a facility, the TechCenter represents a major leap forward in air separation and material handling. It’s where ideas and engineering come together to create the recycling solutions of tomorrow.

A Legacy of Ingenuity and Progress

Founded in 1956, Westeria began as a small manufacturer of agricultural conveyors before evolving into a global leader in separation and conveying technology. The company’s defining innovation came in the 1980s, when it pioneered one of the first cross-flow air separators, introducing a new standard for precision sorting and recovery.

Nearly seventy years later, Westeria continues to innovate with the same commitment to quality, performance, and practical design—helping recyclers around the world create cleaner fractions and more efficient material flows.

A New Chapter for Recycling Technology

After ten years of operation, Westeria’s former technical center was completely rebuilt and reopened in September 2025 as a state-of-the-art TechCenter. The new facility features advanced testing capabilities, digital automation, and customer-focused design.

“With the new TechCenter, we’re setting a milestone for the recycling industry,” says Felix Poth, Managing Director at Westeria. “Our customers receive not only cutting-edge technology but also reliable performance verification for their individual requirements.”

This new hub allows recyclers from around the world—including eFACTOR3 customers—to test their own materials, analyze results, and work directly with Westeria engineers to design the most efficient separation systems for their specific applications.

From Wind Sifters to Smart Separation Systems

Westeria’s story began with simple, manually operated wind sifters—and has since evolved into a portfolio of intelligent, automated separation solutions.

“Every material behaves differently, and every separation task is unique,” explains Hanno Jenkel, Head of Marketing at Westeria. “That’s why our machines must be easy to use and quick to adjust. What used to require manual tools can now be done electrically at the touch of a button.”

With over 35 years of experience, Westeria’s goal has always been the same: to make high-performance separation accessible, intuitive, and consistent, even as recycling streams grow more complex.

The AirStar Evolution: Redefining Air Separation

At the heart of the new TechCenter is Westeria’s AirStar evolution, unveiled at IFAT Munich.
This next-generation windsifter allows operators to control all key parameters—separation drum, conveyor speed, nozzle angle, and airflow velocity—via touchscreen.

Before purchasing, customers can send their materials to Westeria for testing. Each test run determines the ideal setup, and the final parameters are stored as a “recipe” within the system—so the machine arrives pre-configured for maximum performance.

Expanding Possibilities with DuoDrum and AirLift

The TechCenter also features Westeria’s newest configurations:

  • DuoDrum: Adds a second separation drum, dividing materials into light, medium, and heavy fractions within one process.

  • AirLift: An overband separator that removes light materials (like films or PP labels) from heavier fractions with outstanding precision.

Supporting systems include AI-driven DiscSpreaders for consistent material distribution and robust chain-belt conveyors with automatic lubrication—designed to minimize wear, maintenance, and downtime.

A Central Meeting Place for the Recycling Industry

“For us, the TechCenter is a central meeting place for the recycling industry,” says Jenkel. “Here, customers can experience our technology live, test materials, and develop solutions together with us.”

Through this new facility, Westeria continues to connect research with application, giving recyclers real-world confidence in the systems they invest in.
